My impressions of Antarctica are complex, and I’m still processing the remoteness, the harsh environment, the wildlife, and the profound serenity of it all. What captivated me most were the icebergs—each a masterpiece of nature of its own. They came in all shapes and sizes, some massive and others delicately intricate, with fascinating shades of turquoise blue. Floating past these magnificent natural sculptures, I couldn’t help but feel immense calm as I realize how small we are in the vastness of this planet. Nature rules here, yet its survival depends on our respect and care. Antarctica’s strict environmental protocols reflect this delicate balance. Access is tightly restricted, and every effort is made to protect this untouched wilderness for future expeditions and generations. There is no yellow snow from humans.
Although my main goal was to see Antarctica, completing my journey to all seven continents, this experience was so much more. Remote, pristine, and adventurous, it exceeded my expectations in every way.
I’m especially glad I visited in November, at the end of spring and the start of summer. There was still plenty of snow and icebergs, and the penguins were in their lively mating season. In many ways, it was exactly how I imagined it to be—and to my surprise, I didn’t even feel cold!
